Wolf and I have been thinking about being a subsystem a lot recently and thought we could make a thread about it since our system made this forum!
We're a subsystem of two and are a subsystem because we're a fictive, and we were wondering about other subsystems! What are you like? Do you have a shared body in the headspace, and does it change at all with who's fronting? Do you have your own sub-headspace? How do you figure yourselves out when you're already in a bigger system? Or is there anything else that's cool that you'd like to share!
We were wondering about fictive subsystems too, especially ones that are from being a canonically system/plural character, but we weren't sure if that would be too niche!

Hi spidertype! Jean and Phoenix of the Dark Phoenix subsystem here, it's nice to meet you.
We're (Jean + Phoenix) also a subsytem of two, and we're more or less an introjected system (based on Marvel's Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force). From our perspective/exomemories we had DID in our source.
Given that, it's funny/interesting to us that we have been part of this system since before system discovery.
In the larger system, we share one body. Phoenix says this is by choice, so I suppose she could leave and make a new body if she wanted to. We're happy together, though.
When we are in front/co-con, it's always together. We can each be in front with the other co-conscious, or we can be... merged, for lack of a better word, in front together.
As a larger system we are not currently strongly connected to a headspace/innerworld enough to comment on that topic. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that we could develop our own internal headspace, if we tried.
Do you have your own separate headspace?
-Jean & Phoenix

Hi! That's really cool to see someone else in our situation!
We actually were also a part of this system before our system awakening, we thought we were a kintype and actually that might be why we were more comfortable calling ourselves we before we realized. We share a body too but not really by choice in our case, since both in our canon and our headspace we're two entities fused together. We also can't separate and one or the other is always co-fronting!
We do kind of have a sub-headspace, but it's not very advanced and just a room we can visualize each other in

Ohhh I'll maybe have to come back to this when I have the energy to type up a long response... The tldr is we seem to be split into a group of about 3-4 subsystems, each of which has a 'main' alter and then a bunch of fragments or 'lesser' alters either branching off of them or contained within them... Internal appearances can vary and sometimes it's like folks merge together a bit/exist in one internal body, but not always. My main alter, Max, both exists within/is the 'main' alter of a subsystem, AND has fragments splitting off from him that seem to be like... him-but-not. One of the subsystems is comprised almost entirely of a bunch of different versions (ages or emotions) of our previous host/'core'.
None of us have any kind of headspace or any ability to like, communicate internally as separate entities really, so I can't talk much about that!

Our subsystems are complicated enough we could probably make our own thread explaining them(maybe something for the "journals" board). It's an interesting topic because the ways terms are applied can be so different. I (Bijou) am part of a sub-system of mostly factives. We think of it as Res, our leader, as an "original" member (rather than an introject) introjecting all of us, whether directly or indirectly; the indirect part is that some of our members trace their existence to me getting hyperfixated on their muse(our term for a "factive source"). As a subsystem, we find the distinction mostly that we find switching and communication easier between eachother, and also enjoy having that identity as part of that sub-system. We also have a sub-sub-system that all introjected from the same group of people. They are all almost always in co-con with eachother and often in co-front, which is something that the rest of us do more rarely as it's more difficult for us.

This is very similar to what we experience! I myself am actually a sub-part(?) of another "main" or "umbrella" member (we use "umbrella" as in, "umbrella term", to refer to the root/main member, I guess?). I'm not a fragment myself, but I am intrinsically linked to that person and my existence relies on their existence, even though I'm also sort of separate from them. Fundamentally, we're the same "person", but I express different aspects and engage in different activities than that other "version" of me. This happens to most of our members, but I feel like I lack the language to explain this.
For example, there are at least two "versions" of Dusk that are semi-separate, but "Dusk" as an "umbrella entity" claims them both. As I'm typing this I'm realizing how absolutely off-the-wall this must sound, but it's the best way I can think to describe it. Each of these "umbrella members" also has what we call "orbiting fragments", which are less autonomous and usually exist to fulfill a very specific function.
We also use the term "subsystem" to refer to members who are intrinsically connected, yet separate people. I could probably draw a diagram to demonstrate the difference between this kind of subsystem, and the kind I'm attempting to describe above.

Whatever the reasoning, it makes sense to me, with how triggers and activities influence fronting. It would be nice to see that diagram because splits seem to be very connected through memory even if they are definitely seperate and have different intepretations of experiences.

We have a type of subsystem, or side system perhaps, in the Crew. Kit describes her daemons as a daemon system. She has multiple and they all function together as one daemon named Æshe from time to time.
